| Catherine Kuykendall was a wife, a mother, a Westside Elementary School teacher for special needs students, and a member the choir with Parkview Baptist Church. Rarely ever sick, taking no medications, having no known medical conditions, in mid-2011 she went to the doctor because she was tired and jaundice. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In November Catherine passed away. This is the nature of pancreatic cancer. There is no test, no early detection unless it found by accident looking for something else. By the time the cancer produces symptoms you are generally already in the end-stage. Of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, 94% will have died within 5 years; 74% will be gone within the first year. |
